Good passwords have the following characteristics:

  • 123 (too short with numbers only)
  • abc (too short with lower-case letters only)
  • password (lower-case letters only and found in a dictionary)
  • GaryL-1963 (username or other personal identifier)
  • Abc123 (too short with no symbols)
  • !1314,RtB1!4S. (14 characters and follows all other recommendations so long as it is not used anywhere else)
    Mnemonic: In 1314, Robert the Bruce won independence for Scotland.
  • Ch3@p R0ck (10 characters [spaces count] with no vowels and follows all other recommendations so long as it is not used anywhere else)
    Mnemonic: Cheap Rock
  • &r3wc2J3sus41pb. (16 characters and follows all other recommendations so long as it is not used anywhere else)
    Mnemonic: Andrew came to Jesus for a priesthood blessing.
  • J2cwr20p!1vb! (13 characters and follows all other recommendations so long as it is not used anywhere else)
    Mnemonic: Jumping to conclusions with regards to other people is a very bad idea.

In most cases, passwords are case-sensitive, meaning that Appleapple.
